A domain needs to reflect your business, product or service. The best domains are the most memorable and identifiable so ideally it will be short in length and utilise a keyword for your business/product/service.
More to consider: easy spelling, easy differentiation from similar businesses/products/services, friendly to type-in traffic (visitors that find you by searching something directly into the URL bar) and location for your market.
E.g. if most of your business is in Australia look for a .au extension.
